What is a channel manager?

A channel manager connects your listings on several platforms (Airbnb, Booking.com, Vrbo, and others) into a single calendar: a booking on one platform immediately blocks the dates on the others, and prices and availability are changed from one place. For a host advertising on two or more channels, it is the basic protection against double bookings.

Channel manager vs. PMS

The line between them is blurry: a channel manager is more narrowly focused on channel synchronization, while a PMS adds management of the whole operation. Smaller hosts typically start with a channel manager; portfolio managers reach for a PMS that includes channel synchronization.

Why it matters

A channel manager sees reservations from all channels — which makes it an ideal data source for the statutory records that follow. It does not keep those records itself, though: foreigner reporting, the accommodation register (kniha ubytovaných), and the accommodation tax are not part of its remit. In practice it is therefore combined with a tool that reads reservations from the channel manager and fulfils the Slovak obligations from them.
