What a PMS does
A property management system (or channel manager) manages prices, availability and distribution to booking channels such as Airbnb, Booking.com or Vrbo — it keeps your calendar synchronised so you do not get double bookings, and it handles communication with the guest around the booking itself.
What Best Guest does
Best Guest touches none of that. It reads your confirmed bookings (via iCal or a direct integration), sends the guest an online check-in form, verifies the details entered and takes care of everything Slovak law requires after that: it prepares the documents for reporting foreign guests via portal.minv.sk, keeps the guest register (kniha ubytovaných), checks that the booking is real and calculates the accommodation tax according to your municipality’s VZN.
Why this separation makes sense
Compliance requirements change on their own timetable — a municipality changes a rate in its VZN, a short-term rental register arrives in 2027, the Ministry of the Interior determines what a report must contain — independently of what your PMS vendor does. When the guest-registration logic lives in a separate tool, it is maintained precisely to Slovak law, without waiting for the roadmap of a global PMS that has to serve markets around the world.
How the two work together
You keep managing prices, availability and distribution to channels in your existing PMS or channel manager. Best Guest runs alongside it and takes over guest registration and compliance the moment a booking is confirmed — with no duplicate data entry and nothing to migrate.
Don’t have a channel manager yet and aren’t sure you need one? How Best Guest works with and without one, and what each costs, is described in Best Guest vs. channel manager.
