Before you can file your first foreign-guest report in Slovakia, you must be registered as an accommodation provider in the Ministry of Interior SR’s system. Without this registration you cannot reach the electronic reporting form at all — and since the reporting deadline is only 5 days from check-in, registering at the last minute is a common way hosts fall behind on their very first guest.

What You Need to Prepare

  1. A chip-enabled ID card (eID) — issued at any documents department.
  2. An activated qualified electronic signature (KEP) — activated on your eID card; you need to set a signature PIN (KEP PIN).
  3. A card reader and software for signing in via eID (the eID card applications from slovensko.sk).
  4. Access to your electronic mailbox on slovensko.sk — created automatically, but you need to be able to sign into it; for a company, the person authorised to act on its behalf must have access.

For a company (for example an s. r. o. operating apartments), the eID with activated KEP must belong to the managing director or an authorised proxy — the person who will actually carry out the registration and file the reports.

Registration Step by Step

  1. Sign in via eID on the Central Government Portal (slovensko.sk).
  2. In the General Agenda, select the Ministry of Interior SR as the service provider.
  3. Attach the completed accommodation-provider registration form (available on portal.minv.sk, under Reporting Foreigners’ Stays → Accommodation Provider Registration).
  4. Sign the submission with your KEP and send it.
  5. Watch your electronic mailbox on slovensko.sk — that is where the registration confirmation arrives.

Registration is not instant. Arrange it well ahead of time — ideally as soon as you decide to host foreign guests, not once you already have a guest in the apartment and the clock is running.

What Changes After Registration

Once registration is complete, you can file foreign-guest reports electronically on the Ministry of Interior’s portal, in two ways:

  • Manual entry — you enter the data for each accommodated foreigner individually into the form,
  • Bulk XML import — you upload a file generated from a guest register kept in software, and the system processes multiple guests at once.

Confirmations that you have met your reporting duty arrive in your electronic mailbox on slovensko.sk — we recommend keeping them on file as proof in case of an inspection.

Common Pitfalls

KEP not activated. The eID alone is not enough — the qualified electronic signature is a separate function that needs to be activated and tested in advance.

Inaccessible electronic mailbox. Confirmations are delivered exclusively to your mailbox on slovensko.sk. If you cannot sign into it, you will not find out the status of your registration.

Registering at the last minute. The 5-day reporting deadline runs from the guest’s check-in regardless of whether your registration has already gone through. An unregistered accommodation provider with a foreign guest already in the apartment has a problem that cannot be fixed overnight.

A foreign owner without a Slovak eID. If you are a foreigner without a Slovak ID card, access to the electronic service is a genuine obstacle — the usual solution is an authorised proxy with a Slovak eID, or a direct consultation with the Foreigners Police department.

How Best Guest Helps

Accommodation provider registration is tied to your own identity (eID + KEP) — no software can do this step for you. Best Guest picks up right after it: from the data your guest fills in at online check-in, it automatically prepares the documents for the police report and a digital guest register, so submitting via portal.minv.sk itself is just the last step, instead of retyping everything by hand.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to register even if I only have one apartment?

Yes, if you accommodate foreign guests. Accommodation provider registration in the Ministry of Interior's system is a precondition for accessing the electronic guest-reporting form — without it you cannot reach the form at all, even with a working eID and an activated qualified electronic signature. The size of your operation makes no difference.

What do I need before I can register?

A chip-enabled ID card (eID) with an activated qualified electronic signature (KEP), access to your electronic mailbox on slovensko.sk, and a completed accommodation-provider registration form for the Ministry of Interior SR. For companies, the eID and KEP must belong to a person authorised to act on the company's behalf, or to an authorised proxy.

How long does registration take?

Registration is not instant — the Ministry of Interior processes the application, and confirmation arrives in your electronic mailbox on slovensko.sk. Arrange it well ahead of your first foreign guest, not on the day you need to file your first report — the reporting deadline is only 5 days from check-in.

Can someone else register or file reports on my behalf?

A company can authorise a proxy with their own eID and KEP. Whether a fully external party (for example, a property management company) can legally file reports in its own name on behalf of multiple accommodation providers is not clearly documented publicly — for this kind of arrangement, we recommend confirming the procedure directly with the relevant Foreigners Police department.

What can I do once registration is complete?

File foreign-guest reports electronically — either by entering each guest manually, or via bulk XML import from a guest register kept in software. Confirmations that you have met your reporting duty are delivered to your electronic mailbox.
